A Pair of Detentions Following Heathrow Irritant Spray Incident
An additional two individuals are now in custody related to a theft at Heathrow Airport in which 21 people were injured by what is thought to be pepper spray, as stated by law enforcement.
A man, 24, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area for suspected robbery and assault and a 23-year-old woman was arrested for suspected conspiracy to commit robbery. They both remain in custody, the force said.
The arrests follow an investigation into an attack at the multi-level parking garage at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Before the attack, two women had stolen from them their luggage upon exiting a parking garage elevator.
A three-year-old girl was among the injured during the incident. A total of five individuals went to hospital for medical care and have since been discharged.
Officers arrested a 31-year-old man for suspected robbery and assault near the location. He has since been released pending further inquiries as the investigation proceeds.
Police were alerted at about 08:10 GMT following reports of a number of individuals hurt by a noxious substance believed to be an irritant spray.
The assault - which authorities stated was isolated and not considered an act of terror - caused delays to rail services and the temporary shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 parking facility briefly.
